My Big Wheel

Flowcharts

After todays session i was able to do a simple flow chart. First i created a simple traffic light sequence, and then created a mimic ferrace wheel ride. To start with i found it hard, as i kept forgetting to put in the delays...however, once i had mastered this, i found it quite simple. I found out that if you created two flowcharts side by side you are able to have two things running at the same time- for example with my big wheel, i was able to get the lights to flash and the wheel to go forwards and backwards!

The new roamers!

In this weeks ICT lesson we will be looking at making flow charts to program objects, such as traffic lights and Big Wheels. Some people may find these hard to use, and so the difficulty of the completed item will depend on the ability of the creator. I will upload my attempt after the lesson to show you what i mean!

My thoughts on GPRS

This week our lecture was on geo mapping, which is where you can take a photo for example, and upload it, and would be able to show where the picture was taken using GPRS. The lecture itself i found very confusing, however the task itself was much more mundane. It was basically using hyperlinks to skip from one page of a powerpoint presentation to lots of different areas. ie, internet, different slide. This would be good in a classroom if a group were presenting their ideas, and would be easy to acheieve. It may also be useful for a teacher if she was expaining a new topic and needed lots of resources as it saves you having lots of pages saved..this would be especially helpful if the computer crashed!

Podcasting

Thought i would post this now...after a session on podcasts. I was a little unsure of this as a task, and wasnt over enthusiatic at doing it, partly because radio shows i have done in the past have been unsucessful..however, i really enjoyed the session today. The software is easy to use, and it is easy to edit mistakes, which would be very useful in the primary school! The only queries i have with it is that the microphones were slightly tempermental...i found i had to shout to make myself heard, and this would be difficult for primary school children. And also saving the end piece!!!! I saved it to my stick, however it didnt want to play, even in an MP3 format..if anyone can help me, and tell me what i many have done wrong, i would appriciate it!

The four seasons!

After a lot of talking about my animation, here it finally is....

Animations- simply the best!

I have been flipping thorough peoples blogs and found a lot of postivie feedback about the animation task...I LOVED THE ANIMATION SESSIONS TOO! And have a feeling that if children were given the chance to create one they would do exceptionally well!
After thinking about the use of animation in the classroom, i came up with the following ideas:
a fun activity for Golden time (children can play around with ideas and improve their understanding of the equipment).

A way to ensure a child understands a specific topic, this could be in a variety of subjects...how we borrow 10's and give to the units to enable us to take away. The pathway the food takes on its way to the stomach, how the planets move, the sun and earth move etc. The list is endless!

As a fun activity for those children who finish work early (they can do a summary of what they have done as an animation).

As a visual learning tool for children with SEN who would benifit from this type of learning.

All in all animation is great!!

This week in ICT our task was to create a 2D animation. In the session we played around with different ideas, and tried out the timings,so that the movement appeared to be smooth. To do this we used a digi blue camera. This is a really easy piece of equipment, and can be used for a range of different things, such as looking at an image on the IWB (this way all children will be able to see the object in front of you). I will upload some images of our animation next week so you can see how our group got on.

Animations!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uuGaqLT-gO4
I got this from Ruebens page. It was worth watching because it shows just how animations can be made. As we are making our own animations this week in our ICT lecture i think that this videoclip gives a good idea as to the levels we can go to with our work.
Although i am a little worried about making an animation, due to my lack of knowledge in this area, i feel excited at the same time, because if i can make one successfully then i will be able to take this skill into school, and make some of my lessons more creative my getting children to make their own...this will be good for those children who get bored easily in lessons (boys especially) because i think it is something different, and so catches childrens attention.

My first blog!!

Although I have had access to ICT from a very young age, I always seem to have a niggle at the back of my mind about it. From the lectures this week I have seen that in the Primary School, ICT can be very useful, and children use things, like "blogging" everyday, with no worries whatsoever!

Today I have been able to see that in actual fact teachers can work with children (by using blogs and other Web 2.0 materials) to make learning fun! Such as creating a blog to record topic work, creating their own Wiki site etc...This is the main reason for this blog...im practising, so that when I become a teacher, this will be like second nature to me!
